Muv-Luv Alternative: Total Eclipse
In the year 1967, a hostile alien lifeform known as the BETA is discovered on the Moon. When humanity's weapons prove ineffective, the BETA begin their invasion of Earth in 1973. After 25 years of fighting, the BETA have engulfed the majority of Eurasia. During this time, the Tactical Surface Fighter (TSF) was developed. These giant fighting robots allow humans to fight on equal footing against the endless BETA hordes. With the BETA setting their sights on Japan, the next generation of TSF pilots will help decide the fate of the human species.

Yui Takamura is a student at the prestigious Kyoto Royal Guard Academy where she is in training to be a TSF pilot. As the niece of a high ranking Imperial officer, Yui has a lot to live up to. Joined by her friends Izumi, Shimako, Aki and Kazusa, they form a close bond while the looming threat of a BETA invasion grows ever closer. When Korea finally falls to the alien hordes, Yui and the others are called upon to help defend the Japanese capital at Kyoto. |

Despite their best efforts, the never ending waves of BETA overwhelm the Imperial Japanese military. Seeing the situation is hopeless, Yui's squad is ordered to retreat before they too are lost. The BETA relentlessly advance through the countryside and Yui's friends are picked off one by one. With only Yui and Kazusa remaining, they are pinned down under a destroyed subway tunnel. With her TSF rendered useless, Kazusa is swarmed by BETA and begs Yui to shoot her before she is eaten alive. |

Verdant Yukon

Three years later, Yui has risen to the tank of Lieutenant and plays an integral part in the UN Project Prominence. At their Yukon Base in Alaska, this joint organization is dedicated to creating the next generation of TSF with the help of test pilots from all over the world. Yuuya Bridges is one such pilot from America and has been selected to test the Argos Test Flight prototype developed by Yui's unit. There is little cohesion in the international team and Yuuya finds himself in a mock TSF battle between his new Argos-1 squad mates Tarisa, Valerio and Stella. |

Yuuya is put into the driver's seat of the Japanese made TSF Zuikaku. Unfortunately, the hotshot American pilot isn't used to the heavy handling of Japanese TSFs compared to the speed and mobility of his native F-15. Yuuya decides to blow off some steam after an argument with Yui and finds himself in the Soviet section of the Yukon Base. There he encounters a young girl named Inia who drags him off to meet her stuffed teddy bear. Deep within the base, Yuuya is confronted by Cryska Barchenowa, who along with Inia are infamously known as the Scarlet Twins. When Yuuya is apprehended by Soviet authorities for his supposed espionage, Argos-1 truly comes together for the first time to bail him out. |

The Right Stuff

Due to Yuuya's inability to master the Type-94, the Argos Test Flight continues to perform poorly. While out on a routine training exercise, Argos-1 encounters a mysterious TSF. Taking matters into her own hands, Yui decides to show Yuuya what the Japanese TSFs are capable of. |

The Argos Flight program takes to the tropics to acquire flight data for warm regions. Time at the beach puts all the girls in swimsuits and everyone in a better mood. During a boat race, Cryska faints and Yuuya and Yui swim over to help. Before they can return to shore, a sudden tropical storm appears and leaves all three stranded on a small island. |

As they take shelter from the rain, Cryska asks Yuuya why he is bothered about his Japanese heritage. As he explains about his animosity towards his Japanese father, Yui begins to understand him more. As the storm lets up, Inia and the rest of Argos-1 shop up in their TSFs to rescue the stranded trio. Back at the resort, the Scarlet Twins and Yui are roped into a photo-op wearing their swimsuits to increase morale among the troops. |

Far East Battle Lines

The test pilots now depart to Kamchatka to gather flight data for colder regions. Being so near the front lines, the atmosphere is much different than at the tropical resort. The south Soviet pilots show disdain for all outsiders, even the Scarlet Twins who they view as privileged Russians taking refuge in Alaska. For Argos-1's first encounter with the BETA, Yui considers testing her uncle's EML-99X railgun. This superweapon has never been fired before but has the capability to cause massive destruction at extreme range. During the briefing before the operation, they are introduced to Zhar Battalion's commanding officer Fikatsia Latrova, who saved Yuuya and the Scarlet Twins earlier against the disgruntled Soviet pilots. |

Latrova commands her Zhar Battalion to stand by and defend the Argos Flight crew, which they do begrudgingly while mocking Yuuya's inexperience in battle. The BETA presence is stronger than anticipated and Soviet forces in the field are quickly overwhelmed. Realizing that Soviet high command wants the cannon's test firing to fail no matter what the cost, Yuuya tells Latrova and Yui that he will deploy the experimental EML-99X to keep the soldiers from being wiped out. |

The Zhar Battalion still views Yuuya as a rookie who can only hide behind others who are doing the actual fighting. While the cannon is undergoing repairs, the Zhar pilots are mobilized to wipe out another BETA attack near the base. As the pilots realize they are the same BETA from the earlier test flight, more BETA suddenly emerge from a tunnel burrowed right into the middle of Kamchatka base. |

BETA Offensive

As the BETA overrun the base, Soviet command orders everyone to evacuate. Yui's suspicions prove correct when she chooses to stay behind and discovers the Soviets are after the technology Argos Flight left behind, namely the EML-99X cannon. Along with the technician Yamamoto, she attempts to rig the cannon to self-destruct, even at the cost of their own lives. |

Pinned down by BETA in the supply building, Yui is saved in the nick of time by Yuuya and Stella. Undaunted by her own injuries and the loss of Yamamoto, Yui continues her work to destroy the EML-99X. Knowing the BETA are moments away from arriving in force, Yuuya forces Yui into his Type-94. |

Yuuya "misses" his shot against the EML-99X and destroys everything except its core black box. To stop them from escaping with this core module, Soviet command calls in their bombers to level the entire base. Yuuya's Type-94 is critically damaged by BETA so he is forced to transfer Yui to Stella's TSF for her safety. They both attempt to fly out but Yuuya is too damaged to gain altitude. Yuuya braces himself and resolves to fight against the advancing BETA until the bitter end. |

Yuuya's Type-94 sustains critical damage to all systems in the fight against the BETA. Unable to even move, Yuuya is saved by Fikatsia's Zhar Battalion. As Soviet bombers begin their run on the base, laser-class BETA suddenly appear and wipe them all out. Yuuya and the others escape the base together by a mysterious TSF begins trailing them. Fikatsia chooses to stay behind and handle their unknown attacker but is killed in the skirmish. Back at Alaska, Yui and the other are astonished to see Yuuya's TSF returning in the setting sun. |

A party is held for the Argos Test Flight returning to Yukon Base. Yuuya tastes Yui's cooking and is reminded of a dish that his mother used to make. Before they can have a moment together, Chinese TSF pilot Cui Yifei suddenly interrupts the party to declare her love for Yuuya. |

Yuuya's rival from his old squad arrives at Yukon Base. While catching up with Vincent, Leo learns that Yuuya is not the same pilot he knew back in America. The following days are scheduled with mock TSF battles pitting each nation's teams against each other. The Scarlet Twins win their Blue Flag match against Europe's Slechtvalk Flight before even ten minutes have passed. The next round sees Argos-1 against Cui Yifei's Bao Feng group. Yuuya faces Cui Yifei in single combat, using his Type-94's superior maneuverability to overcome her TSF's raw power. |

The Blue Flag exercises continue with America's Infinity flight in their Raptors pitted against Bao Feng flight. Meanwhile, Yuuya is approached by the Scarlet Twins. Cryska wants to know why his presence has such a strange effect on them. Yuuya explains that it may be due to their similar personalities as pilots. Their meeting is interrupted by Cui Yifei who berates him for picking up other girls while Yui jealously watches on in hiding. |

Last year, Yuuya was a test pilot working on America's F-22 Raptor along with Leo and Sharon. While pushing the TSF to the edge of the envelope, he accidentally gets their squad leader killed in a crash. Leo has never forgiven Yuuya for his recklessness and their animosity towards one another has extended beyond mere rivalry. |

To bring together each nation's flight teams after the Blue Flag games, all test pilots are sent out on a hiking trip in the wilderness. Their paths all cross at a hot springs where everyone decides to make camp. While Vincent and VG are defeated along with the rest of the guys trying to peek at the girls, Yuuya and Leo share their own hot spring awkwardly wondering where everyone went. |

Sleeper agents strike without warning and attack the Yukon Base. By infiltrating every nation's military, their take over is swift and devastating. Yui barely escapes the massacre while Yuuya, Tarisa and Cui confront their friend Natalie who seems to be working with the terrorists. She explains they are part of the Refugee Liberation Front which accuses all non-frontline nations of neglecting the plight of refugees after the loss of their own homelands to the BETA. Before she can tell them about the U.S.'s secret research, she is shot by another RLF member for revealing too much of their plans. |

The RLF succeeds in reaching their target at the research facility deep under Yukon Base. Yuuya and the other pilots launch their TSFs in an effort to retake the base. While evading the attackers, Lt. Dahl is confronted by Mariem, a RLF leader, who he had saved years ago when her home was destroyed by BETA. Soviet commander Sandek also evades capture and is picked up by the Scarlet Twins. However, the RLF has their own TSF force and won't be giving up Yukon Base without a fight. |

Yuuya faces the RLF force alone and is nearly defeated before Inia arrives to help. When the remaining Yukon TSFs return, Miriam's sister and RLF squad leader Ozlem realizes the situation is hopeless and launches a suicide attack against Cui. When Miriam learns of her sister's death, she executes the next portion of their plan. All BETA being held in the research facility are released, and the U.S.'s secret Red Shift plan is revealed. As a last ditch effort against a BETA invasion, hydrogen bombs will detonate and create an artificial straight as a last line of defense. This event would also mean the complete loss of all Soviet facilities and people who are on the other side of this line. While Yuuya and the others set out to keep this from happening, the RLF leader Christopher puts his own plan into motion. |

The Yukon Base pilots face off against the advancing BETA but their numbers are too great. Seeing no other choice, Sandek orders the Scarlet Twins to use their Prafka, a supernatural developed ability that allows their TSF to perform and unbelievable levels. Cryska requests that their limiter be released and Sandek reluctantly agrees. |

White Darkness

The Scarlet Twins easily defeat Christopher and proceed to slaughter the BETA with relentless efficiently. In their berserk state, they attack friend and foe alike and are instinctually drawn to Yuuya. They impale his unresisting TSF, narrowly missing him in the cockpit. The shock returns them to normal and greet Yuuya with open arms. In the battle's aftermath the base slowly returns to normal. Yui is ordered to return to Japan where the future of the XJF project hangs in the balance. She chooses not to say her goodbyes to Yuuya, vowing to return at all costs. As she departs, she meets with Cryska near the Soviet side of Yukon Base where she declares that they are both rivals in love over Yuuya. |
